The World of Exuberance & Enigma – Art Exhibition
Sanatan Saha has always been one of the most consistent and prolific painters who engaged himself with a process of image-making that is both enigmatic and familiar, at turns. He has gradually, over the years, created a vibrant pictorial world that tends to accommodate a plethora of figures and objects, elemental as well as cultural, natural as well as fabricated, from the imagined as well as the experienced reality.
Sanatan Saha’s paintings convey a luminous pictorial world replete with innumerable images emerging from various layers of the painted surface. These layers perhaps correspond to our layered existence and memories of past and present, emerging from a tangible and intangible continuum. The entire gamut of visual components in his works thus floats, as it were, in spatial substratum created by applications of paints in layers denoting for various time-deposits, evoking an archaeological spectacle. Instead of earth, one smells a saline ocean. Instead of darkened tones of excavated pits, one is enchanted by the beaming colored lights in their most extravagant vivacity.
